We’re in the midst of a spooky season and the best streaming services aren’t slowing down with their slate of new movies to add to your watchlist. But with so much on offer, narrowing down what to watch can become a real task.

Leading the pack this week is the first premium streaming of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the long-awaited return of Tim Burton’s most anticipated ghost. Meanwhile, Netflix is launching a new romantic drama, “Lonely Planet” and you can find the latest M “Night Shyamalan’s mystery thriller “Caddo Lake” on Max.

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ (PVOD)

Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara are all returning for “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 comedy-horror classic. This time, newcomer Jenna Ortega is fresh off his stint in Burton’s Addams Family adaptation “Wednesday.”
Set several decades after the first “Beetlejuice,” Lydia Deetz (Ryder) has amassed a devoted following as the host of her own ghost-hunting show. Too bad his ex-daughter thinks all this supernatural sleight of hand is nothing more than smoke and mirrors to gain profit. Following a family tragedy, Lydia returns to her old home in Winter River, where she is forced to confront her eccentric mother-in-law (O’Hara) and the twists and turns of the sinister spirit Betelgeuse (Keaton). This is a fantastic spooky adventure for the whole family, filled with slapstick comedy and fun scares that are more entertaining than scary.

“Lonely Planet” (Netflix)

If you’d rather avoid the scares, Netflix has a juicy new romantic drama from “Erin Brockovich” writer Susannah Grant that pairs Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth. Dern plays a down-on-her-luck novelist named Katherine who is stuck in a rut after splitting from her cancer-surviving sculptor ex. A sunny retreat in Morocco seems to be the cure for writer’s block.
There, she meets Owen (Hemsworth), a young man who has come to the retreat with his girlfriend, and sparks fly despite their age difference. After a few chance encounters, their friendship blossoms into something more, kicking off a love story that will change their lives. Although it’s not likely to throw any narrative balls, “Lonely Planet” looks like a tender drama with two stunning protagonists and an equally stunning setting that should be more than enough to keep viewers in suspense.

“The Last Women of the Sea” (Apple TV Plus)

Sue Kim, director of A24 and “The Speed Cubers,” presents a poignant documentary about a group of Korean diving grandmothers, often referred to as real-life mermaids, determined to keep their disappearing culture alive.
“The Last Women of the Sea” tells the story of the haenyeo, the renowned divers from South Korea’s Jeju Island, who have been diving to the depths of the ocean for centuries without oxygen or any other specialized equipment to harvest seafood for their communities. Today, most haenyeo are between 60 and 70 years old, but these resilient and determined women continue their craft, inspiring younger generations to protect both their tradition and the ocean that supports them. This heartwarming documentary follows inspiring mothers and grandmothers as they explore the deep bonds of friendship within their close-knit community.

‘Caddo Lake’ (Max)

M. Night Shyamalan is back, this time with a new mystery thriller from “Topside” directors Logan George and Celine Held. The action takes place in the rural, humid community of Karnack, Texas, which is rocked by the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl. Her half-sister Ellie (Eliza Scanlen) is determined to get to the bottom of things, which sees her path cross with that of another Parisian (Dylan O’Brien), a young man still reeling from the death of his mother, suffering a then-driving seizure that sent them both hurtling into Caddo Lake.
As strange things begin to happen, their investigation uncovers shocking revelations and long-buried secrets on the lake. Much of the plot has been kept under wraps, but the trailer makes it clear that science fiction and time elements are at play. And given that this is a Shyamalan film, it There are bound to be many twists and turns.

“A Quiet Place Part II” (Netflix)

If seeing “A Quiet Place: Day One” has made you want to revisit the franchise, you’ll be happy to know that “A Quiet Place: Part II” just arrived on Netflix in time for spooky season. The sequel picks up where the first left off, with the Abbott family, led by Emily Blunt’s matriarch Evelyn, setting off with her three children in search of survivors in a world filled with deadly aliens who hunt by sound .
This time, joining the cast is Cillian Murphy, an equally hardened survivor, an old family friend named Emmett, and Djimon Hounsou, the leader of an island colony of survivors, who we learned more about in “Day One.” this time. Filled with thrilling moments and a cast of characters you can’t help but root for, “A Quiet Place Part II” offers more than just thrills: it’s a horror film with depth and from the heart.
